I am a Flange

Today, I am a Flange. Here's a picture:

What is a flange? According to google, the definition of Flange is "a projecting flat rim, collar, or rib on an object, serving to strengthen or attach or (on a wheel) to maintain position on a rail."

Working in a pharmaceutical company got me exposed to this word, but whenever I hear it, I dont think about how it supports something, but rather the TV series Friends, in the episode where Phoebe tells Rachel to get off the plane because something is wrong with the left 'flange'. I remember laughing hard, thinking that a 'flange' was made up since the flight attendent kept on telling her there's no such thing as a 'flange'.

Then again, Phoebe might've be saying "Phalanges", which are the bones of your fingers and toes. Either way, both words, pronounced almost the same way, reminds me of this episode, although Phoebe does say it many many times throughout the TV series.

Its always fun to learn new words, but I can never take this word seriously, regardless of which one it is. If you say it a lot, the word just sounds funny, but then again, when you say any word out loud multiple times, they end up sounding weird.

Another point! Have you ever stared at a word for a really long time that it just looks wrong and seems like you made a spelling error? Now that's annoying!

But nonetheless, I have a flange lying on my desk, and so today I am a flange.
